Der gute Chairman (2)

Niall Quinn spendierte 80 gestrandeten Sunderland-Fans eine Taxifahrt zurück nach Hause.

Die Fans und der Chairman sassen am Samstagabend nach dem Match gegen Cardiff City im EasyJet-Flugzeug von Bristol nach Newcastle und warteten auf den Abflug, als der Pilot betrunkene Fluggäste meldete. Die Polizei kam und eine Gruppe von Fans wurde aus dem Flugzeug geholt. Kurz darauf wurde der Flug annulliert. Quinn meinte, EasyJet habe überreagiert:

Es waren keine Unruhestifter an Bord. Die Stimmung war nur ein wenig ausgelassen nach unserem Sieg [0:1].

Obwohl Quinn sich bei EasyJet für seine Supporter einsetzte, blieb die Fluggesellschaft hart: zero-tolerance.

Also organisierte der gute Chairman 18 Taxis, welche sämtliche Fans die rund 300 Meilen zurück nach Sunderland brachten. Quinn sorgte persönlich dafür, dass alle eine Fahrgelegenheit hatten, bevor er selbst in das letzte Taxi stieg. Etwa £8’000 soll die Aktion den Club gekostet haben. Eine schöne Geste.
